Nearly £14,000 raised for Naomi House and Jacksplace so far
Bayer cyclists reach Paris after 240 mile journey
Thirty-seven tired but very happy cyclists from Bayer arrived in Paris on Saturday afternoon to glorious sunshine, after finishing an epic 240 mile journey which had started from Bayer’s offices in Green Park on Thursday.
Reading, 13 June, 2017:
Their goal had been to raise over £10,000 for the hospices, Naomi House and Jacksplace, which provide expert hospice care to life-limited, life-threatened children, young people and their extended families. Their joy at finishing was underlined by the knowledge that the amount of money they have raised is now approaching the £14,000 mark.
The highlight of day one for the cyclists, apart from some particularly challenging climbs, had been a diversion from their planned route from Reading to Portsmouth to visit Naomi House and Jacksplace, where they were given a tour and a chance to see for themselves what their fundraising was supporting.
At the end of day one the team caught a ferry from Portsmouth to Caen and, on days two and three, pedalled steadily to Paris, finally reaching the iconic Eiffel Tower on Saturday afternoon.
Team leader, Martin Beaver, said: “It was a tremendous three days of teamwork, courage and encouragement. Some people had only been owners of bikes for a couple of months, and fought their way to the end with determination. Other more seasoned cyclists provided help and encouragement. Everyone showed the character we expect from a Bayer group and we are very proud to have raised £14,000 so far, with scope for further funds to be added.”
Details of the fundraising are at the team’s web page www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Country-Platform or on the Bayer.co.uk website.
In the next month, another group from Bayer will be holding a big fundraising event, with over 200 taking part in a triathlon to raise more funds for charity.
