Bayer HealthCare's commitment
|
Bayer HealthCare is, therefore, increasing its efforts to provide appropriate information for its customers, especially patients. In addition to providing this information, the company is playing its part in combating counterfeiting by means of product-based security measures, internal and external investigations and prosecution of offenders. However, a joint effort by industry and its associations as well as national and international organisations will be required. For this reason Bayer HealthCare is co-operating with the relevant authorities across the globe and actively supports the anti-counterfeiting activities of international pharmaceutical associations.
In the UK, Bayer is a member of the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) and is regulated by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Both organisations are actively involved in ensuring patient safety and the ABPI commented: “While it is disturbing that counterfeit copies of a prescription medicine have been able to find their way into the UK supply chain, the prompt identification of the fake products and the speedy action taken are reassuring.” (reference: http://www.abpi.org.uk/press/press_releases_04/040824.asp).
In Ireland, Bayer is a member of the Irish Pharmaceutical Healthcare Association (IPHA) and is regulated by the Irish Medicines Board (IMB).
