Course Update as at 19:30 Thursday 10th May
We completed a successful test run of the entire route on Thursday evening.
- There has obviously been been a lot of rain over the past 6 weeks or so, but it hasn't caused any major issues to the course.
- The grass sections at 2.5km and 4.5km are nice and firm, though runners should be aware of the increased risk of slipping if the grass is wet.
- There are puddles - particularly on the gravel track at about 4km, and on the path leading to Moor Lane, between 5.5km and 6km. There is also some mud on this path - I prefer to go through the puddles, which tend to be firm gravel at the bottom, rather than going round the muddy edges which can be slippery.
- The route through the underpass is dry.
- Current forecast is that it will now stay fairly dry until race day with quite a lot of sun on Saturday. Providing this proves to be correct, the course should dry out nicely for the race, and road shoes are likely to be the best choice.
- We didn't spot any new hazards on the course
- A temporary repair has been made to the sunken drain cover on Bartholomew Street.
- Current forecast for 10am on race day is 12 degrees C and sunny with a 7mph wind from the WSW
- Pigs, cows and even a couple of giraffes should be visible from the course this year. Good luck!

| Start of the Bayer Newbury 10k run |
Sunday, 13 May 2012, 10:15 start; Market Place, Newbury
The Bayer Newbury 10K is an annual multi-terrain event in the heart of Newbury, Berkshire. Bayer continues to work in partnership with Newbury Athletic Club (NAC) in organising the event, and with Newbury Sound for media support. Now in its fifth year, the event has expanded to accommodate 1,000 runners on Sunday 13 May.
Every year, the run raises much needed funds for local charities. This year, the event will be supporting Swings & Smiles. This charity is building a comprehensive recreational facility in West Berkshire for all families who have children with special needs.
The run will follow a similar route as previous years and has been selected as it can accommodate up to 1,000 runners! Starting in the Market Place in Newbury, the route climbs gently for the first 3km, followed by a short descent and is then flat for the rest of the course. Approx 7km of the course is on the road and the remainder on footpaths and the tow path.
