Running shoes on for the Bayer Newbury 10k

The event, which has been brought forward a couple of weeks due to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, will once again take place through the historic streets of Newbury and the surrounding countryside.

Last year’s event saw more than 850 runners register, raising over £10,000 for the Newbury and District MS Society and Newbury Athletic Club (NAC).  Bayer will once again be working with NAC to organise the race, Newbury Sound will provide media support and, new for 2012, Swings & Smiles has been selected as the chosen charity.

This year, 1,000 places have been allocated for runners of all ages and experience. Souvenirs and medals will be given to everyone who finishes and there will be cash prizes and trophies for all age category winners, first team and best fancy dress.

We’re very excited to be working with Newbury Athletic Club on the Bayer Newbury 10k once again and expect to fill the 1,000 places in record time! We are also very proud to be supporting Swings & Smiles, a local charity for families who have children with special needs.”

Race director Tim Marsh, of Newbury Athletic Club, said: “The Bayer Newbury 10k is always popular with individuals and running clubs alike. As a result, we would advise booking your place as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment.”

Founder of Swings & Smiles, Sian Cook, said: “We are delighted to have been nominated as the 2012 charity for the Bayer Newbury 10k. Every penny we receive brings us a step closer to achieving our goal of establishing a recreational facility for families with children who have special needs, right here in Newbury.
