Lucy Butcher, volunteer services manager at jacksplace, comments: “We’ve been wanting to sort out the gardens at jacksplace for some time but, due to the weather and needing people to help, it has been put on hold. When Bayer offered their team of 21 members, the extra hands enabled us to complete the main lawns in a day and we’re delighted with the results!”
The team managed to lay the turf in record time and finished off the day by turning their hands to painting flower urns and carrying out some gardening maintenance at Naomi House.
“We wanted to do something good in the local community and with all the support that Bayer has given Naomi House over the years, we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to show our support. jacksplace is a fantastic facility and we were pleased to provide new lawns for the children to appreciate”, said Karen Owen, from Bayer’s F.A.C.T team.
The new hospice, jacksplace@naomihouse, enables Naomi House to provide care for young people over the age of 18 years old. jacksplace was completed last Autumn and the new facility includes six specially designed bedrooms with en-suite facilities that give the youngsters privacy and dignity. Other facilities include a wheelchair accessible kitchen, social areas, hydro therapy pool, a sports field and gardens.

Wessex Children’s Hospice Trust, known as Naomi House, provides support to children and young people with life limiting conditions from across central southern England. The charity offers one-to-one palliative care that includes respite stays, terminal and bereavement care. This support is available 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
The services the Trust provides are available to families from two purpose built hospices, Naomi House and jacksplace, situated just north of Winchester in Hampshire. In addition the community service supports families who need our help during emergency situations. It costs around £5 million a year to provide these services to the children, young people and families. With less than 15% of income coming from Government and other statutory bodies, the Trust relies on the generosity of people in the community to continue its work. Their support enables the charity to provide these crucial care services, free of charge, to children and their families.
