Careers with Animals

Do you like the thought of working with animals and want to learn more?

Around 100 young people from schools all around the South of England got a little bit of animal magic when they visited Bayer for two Careers With Animals days.

Hosted by the Baylab and supported by Animal Health, and staff from the Royal Veterinary College, there were two Careers With Animals days, one for 9-13-year-olds and the second for 14-18-year-olds.

When the young learners and parents arrived, they enjoyed an action packed day, seeing everything from reptiles and insects, to dogs and even a Shetland pony.

The animals were brought to Bayer by animal educational specialists, Ranger Stu, Little Shetland Company, Teaching Talons and Therapy Dogs Nationwide, all of which provide educational and curriculum based school talks and activities.

Throughout the two days, they introduced children and young people to the idea of looking after animals, including feeding, welfare, veterinary topics and animal habitats. They were ably assisted by a team from Animal Health who talked about parasites and fleas in animals, and the importance of prevention as well as general care and The Royal Veterinary College who gave the young people the chance to put theory into practice, learning how to clean and bandage an animal, test animal heart rates, and interpret Xrays. We hope all attendees left inspired and more informed on all the careers they could do with animals.

Bayer hope to run more events like this in the future, if you wish to be added to the mailing list please contact baylabinfo@bayer.com.
