Bayer has opened its first Baylab in the UK. Based in the beautiful waterside setting of Green Park, Reading, this free laboratory for schools offers state of the art equipment, intriguing experiments, and the chance to use innovative ideas to solve tasks and develop solutions. Covering key stages 1-5, it complements what the students learn at school and enables them to make their own unique discoveries. Click here for more information.
Bayer sponsors the Cultivate Programme for young people in the Thames Valley to develop their business ideas, with prizes worth £1,000. Run by the Education Business Partnership, West Berkshire, the scheme involves young people working with assigned mentors over a period of four months. Around ten shortlisted candidates and groups from local schools then present their ideas and business plans to a judging panel at a grand awards ceremony. Click here for more information.
Bayer Agricultural Education
Since 2001, Bayer’s Crop Science business in the UK has been collaborating with long-term partners who are committed to the future of farming in the UK and Ireland. FarmEd captures 17 initiatives which focus on promoting careers in agriculture, supporting and training current farmers, and raising awareness of food and farming to people of all backgrounds nationwide. The Bayer Farming & Countryside Education Awards for example recognises the great work that many UK farmers and initiatives are doing to provide enriching learning environments for the general public whether on-farm or in the classroom. Another initiative is the biennial Youth Agricultural Summit where 100 18-25 year old global delegates work together for five days to find sustainable agricultural solutions to world hunger framed by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
